Do we believe this?
Hmmm.... So, first, we take the only parent these seven (SEVEN) children probably know and jail her because she can't afford to pay the fines? So, do we EVEN search for the father of these children since, you know, we care THAT much? Do we find out why he, too, haven't been 'responsible' enough to make sure the children are all dainty and nicely prepared for school on time?
Then, we place the mother (because she can't afford said fines) in an institution with CRIMINALS and there's a strong possibility she's never committed a crime herself?
And, if the kids are in high school do we find out why they chose not to attend? We know that some kids are bullied by fellow students and even their teachers... are we so inept and incompetent to doing the work of getting to the core of problems has become far-fetched? ...so much that we place another band aid on cancer? There are way too many factors to consider when criminalizing a person based on their parenting skills, particularly one who was an impoverished, single mother.
